Mahtomedi Middle School Black Student Union

The Black Student Union (BSU) is a club at Mahtomedi Middle School where students meet, do fun activities, celebrate each other, and build lasting communities.

This week, the BSU is sponsoring a Black History Month Spirit Week, encouraging all school members to participate in daily dress-up days, including cultural dress-up day. This month, they will also host a potluck for members.

Fun and learning together is a big focus of the group. At one of their recent meetings, students played charades focused on celebrating famous and historical Black figures. They had fun and learned to work together during the game. Students in BSU also organize movie nights and have been busy planning Black History Month Spirit Week. Students love this club and how this is a safe place to connect. Several students shared that is both a place to learn new things and have fun.

BSU meets twice a month, and students and families can watch for upcoming dates in the school eNews and on the TV announcements at school or connect with the BSU’s advisor, Ms. Chelsea Paquette.
